How To Manage Your Life As A Student

School life can be tough sometimes - all the work piled on us students can be overwhelming and often drives us crazy. In this article I'll show you everything you need to know to help you manage your hectic student schedule.

Learn to say "NO"

Work now, party later. I'm not saying that you shouldn't take a break from studying (including a study break makes you less flustered and produces a more productive mind) - just make sure that you prioritise getting your work done than going to every party you're invited to.

Don't feel bad if most of your friends are going out while you spend your weekends studying - its totally ok. At the end of the day, as you grow up, learning to say "no" to events that won't really matter in the long-run is such an important skill. Yeah, you might miss out on the juicy things that happened at parties - but think about it, will going to that party help you get into Uni? or help you get the skills you need to land you your dream job? nope.

Don't wait for the perfect moment

You ever sit on your bed staring at your desk and you just can't find the strength and motivation to get up and start working? us students often wait for the "right time" to start studying. You may tell yourself "I'll study in 2 minutes" and then when 2 minutes is up you give yourself more time and until you decide that you'll try again tomorrow.

Don't wait for the perfect time to start studying, just start now. Once you start and you're already 20 minutes into your study session, you're going to wonder why it took you so long to just start studying - you'll realize that studying is actually not as bad as you thought it would be.

Create a routine

..and stick to it.

A routine will help you get so many things done properly and on time as well. Create an after-school routine that includes the following:

What time you eat

How long you can rest

What time you shower

What time you start working on your assignments (plus the duration)

What time you to go to sleep

You can utilise the reminders app on your phone by adding everything you need to do after school; set an alarm beside each task to make sure that you don't forget about your routine.

Stay away from your phone

I know how hard it can be hard to put your phone down and start studying. However, with some assistance, you can focus on your work without any distractions. Try using an app I recently came across called Forest.

Forest is basically a productivity boosting app that helps you stay off your phone and get some work done. What you do is that once you open the app, you set a timer for how long you wanna study, and then you plant a seed. The longer you stay away from your phone, the more your tree grows bigger - but if you leave the app, your tree dies. This app will help motivate you to try to keep your tree alive by encouraging you to focus on your work.

Set weekly goals & track them

Do you ever feel like you wasted a week because you realized that you didn't achieve anything? that feeling is absolutely horrible! going through the week without any direction will make you feel disorganised and your school life is gonna be in shambles.

Every sunday, before the week officially starts, write down everything you need to achieve by the end of the week. Write down your weekly goals in a planner so that you have a record of what you need to get done during the week.

Once the week ends, write down any accomplishments and set backs you have experienced when trying to achieve those goals. Lastly, give yourself any feedback about what you can do to maintain your successes and what you can do to improve any failures.

Break down your work

It can be draining to start working on an assignment because of the amount of workload you need to get done to complete it. To make things easier for you, try breaking down your assignment into smaller chunks so that your tasks are more manageable for you.

Remember to take many short breaks

Breaks are so important! relax your mind: take a nap, eat a snack, read a book, check your phone, meditate etc. Don't just sit at your desk working for hours; you're going to burn yourself out.
